On December 2nd, 2023, Take Action Today hosted its first Winter Banquet to celebrate the growth of the organization and its impact on our region. Board members and staff were joined by community members and allies as we celebrated our accomplishments and discussed the challenges faced by the recovery movement in Southern Illinois. Mayor Lee Messersmith and Sheriff Kyle Bacon received Community Ally awards for their service and commitment to our community, and Rachel Gartner received the first-ever Community Advocacy award for her media coverage of recovery-related topics.
The 3rd Annual Walk for Recovery, presented by the Southern Illinois Recovery Network
More than 200 people gathered together on the Williamson County Courthouse steps to celebrate the 70 million Americans who are in active recovery from substance use. Walk participants listened and cheered as local and statewide advocates shared their experiences and strengths. Participants marched to Marion City Square to symbolize carrying the message of hope from the courthouse to the city square. Afterward, good music filled the air, and great food filled our bellies as we enjoyed each other's company together as a unified recovery community.
